Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are a vital part of NCCER’s workforce development system. Top-notch teams are recruited for each craft to assist in curriculum development, assessment item writing and review, as well as the development of performance profiles and performance verifications.
We strive for committees to balance industry and education by recruiting construction and maintenance professionals with at least journey-level experience, and instructors from around the country. But there’s more to involvement than outstanding knowledge and familiarity with NCCER. Here’s what we’re looking for in our SMEs:
Attendance: Consistently attend our meetings. When life happens, they give the project team a heads up.
Participation: Contribute and offer feedback. If something is wrong, they offer an innovative solution.
Deadlines: Know how key making a deadline is. They do everything they can to get their work in on time.
Communication: Respond timely and keep us updated on project-relevant items.
This group reviews outdated content and identifies topics to remove, revise or add, so that we’re creating the most current and relevant programs for trainees and employers.
This group works with our team of technical writers and project managers to validate the original content changes made by the Initial Curriculum Review SMEs. Detail-oriented SMEs are a great fit for this role.
This group will be writing and reviewing questions. For assessments, we’re seeking SMEs working in the field to provide expertise. For testing, we are looking for instructors to share their knowledge.
This group provides input on the tools and resources setting instructors up for success in their classrooms. SMEs will supply guidance on the best lesson plans, slides and other instructor resources.
This group is ready to assess performance. We have a need for instructors to evaluate performance profiles, as well as technical SMEs to review the quality and job-relevance of performance verifications.
